Why do I attract this type of person?
If you asked any normal person I believe the ideal things they would want in a mate would be character, kindness, love, honesty and any other good thing that would sustain a relationship. I don't think anyone wants drama, emotional abuse, lewd behavior, or to be viewed as a piece of meat or do they? You wouldn't think anyone would want the latter but what do our choices tell us. I have heard so many singles young adults complain about what they seem to attract. Is it what you seem to attract or is it what you are willing to put up with!!! Its hard to sit and listen anymore complaining because at some point you have to take some responsibility for what you choose.
Recently I read a friend of mines page and it will remain anonymous for obvious reasons. In it she stated I get so tired of guys coming at me for sex. Hmmm lets see why? Well each and every picture you have left nothing to the imagine so what else was the guy left to think. If we would men and women be clear with what we want from a mate and not settle for less than that we would be so much better off. Less Drama and Less Hurt. A relationship is hard enough to make work with two people who agree and have a common focus so please take this advice. If you want respect act respectful. If you wanted to be looked at as decent present yourself decent. If you want a gentleman then be gentle. You get what you put out and you recieve what you allow.

Is There Not A Cause
Driving down the street
Walking through the stores
I can feel a million eyes looking at me
Cold eyes
Aimless eyes with no direction and its killing me cause it used to be me
A young black male eyes shady with weed smoke
Education lacking
An I can't die attitude
So instead of just letting that young man pass me by I decided to make a difference. Can I lie and say I have a platform of millions of young men to speak to everyday. No!!! What I can say is I take value in reaching just one in the crowd who can reach the crowd that maybe I can't. We are relying on teachers who are frustrated themselves to raise our kids. Every coach isn't Coach Carter and the military isn't the answer for every young man with authority issues. Its often said that people are a product of their enviroment so I highly recommend that we take our young black men up and challenge them giving them the skills to succeed. Don't turn a def ear to the kid cussing. Don't be so quick to turn your nose down on the one tatted up and down. Who knows what kind of impact you could have on someone? I leave you with this. Be concerned, be genuine, and recognize the value in giving than receiving.....

Hoop Dreamer (Poem)
Driving down the lane with fiery leaping with gust of wind following my shoes
Hanging on the rim as a hopeless defender feels the blues
I can Kobe shake and bake D-Wade spin and grin
But tell me why is all this talent wasted from one end of the rim to the next end
Thought I could shoot jumpers
Pretty floating runners
Thought academics being smart had no honor
Cause everybody told me I would make it
Had me thinking I was the greatest
So I had that me attitude
Pick me on your team or you lose
In highschool for sports not school
And I never even care when the team takes a pounding and lose
Long as that scout is in the stands
He came to see me man
He likes how I drain 3's
How I can command double teams from the D
How I have all the talent A-Z
It was all academic but I didn't get it
Every bucket I scored didn't mean I was winning
Graduation is here and the sport I loved seems senseless
The court now is in hindsight
Season is over and no college teams gave a bite
Now its useless Jumpers, Freethrows and Dunks just to feel my appetite

Ain't No Stopping Me
Well after years, months, days, hours, and seconds of long hard work. The time has finally come. For many years I worked diligently to empower myself in the entertainment industry. Some days were good and some days were bad. I experienced many doors closed in my face and yet also much favor. Yet finally I am so happy to say my company is incorporated. I hope now when you see me you can also see the brand that I stand for which is PEN-A-FLAME Entertainment Inc. I am so proud to say today was the official day it all came together under one umbrella. I want to thank all my family Drains, Edwards, Millers and close friends who helped me to achieve this moment in my life. I see big things in the immediate future and in the long term. I ask that you all pray for me because I don't have just a company but a brand that will be used to make a positive impact in the lives of youth and young adults all across the globe.

Too know me.....
Today was a much needed break day because I have been running as my mom would say like a chicken with its head cut off. I don't think many people realize the energy and effort it takes to really commit to an idea vision or quest and see it fully through. I always knew from a young age rocking a nine to five forever wasn't for me. Please understand me I have no problem with working in the traditional workforce and still do it time to time to support my ultimate goals but I believe the day to day survival of making it happen has gotten a hold of me. Yet don't confuse me with one of those aimless dreamers who live in the clouds not realizing bills got to get paid and obligations must be met.
I guess you can say I am writing this blog because alot of people ask me how do you stick with your dream and goals after all these years. My only answer to them is desire. There is no obstacle that can hold me down. I believe God gave me a stick to it attitude to the 10th power and that is what you need to succeed in whatever you choose to do.
Some days I think wow I could have took the easy route. I could have just took record contracts that were presented to me. I could have married the first lady that seemed like she loved me. I could have stayed in Georgia all my life never venturing out to see what the rest of the world has to offer. But in reality sometimes what you say no to today can be what sets you up for tomorrow and tomorrow for me ends in success....

Boys to Men
We all at one time or another have heard in our lifetime a woman can't raise a man. Whether you believe or not its all based on your perspective. Family life today is no longer what our parents and generations before us would have ever pictured. They are more single families and the need for young men to have father figures in their lives has become a great need.
I believe for us positive male role models we must help our sisters and help these young brothers to grow into great men. Believe me a little private time with a young boy or teen goes a long way. Good advice from a man really enables them with the life skills that can only be taught by a man. It feels good sometimes to get a man to man talk. I hope real men can realize that is our responsibility to help carry the load to see a young child develop into a young man. Too all the single mothers continue to be the strong but remember their are still positive role models for the young men in your lives.

Let's Chill....
After a long hard week I am know different than anyone else I am waiting for the weekend. I want to chill. I want to take the A-Town hat off and be around friends that like me for me and who I can be myself around. I mean this is Atlanta the Mecca of the South and starting to be the city that never sleeps but why am I stuck in the house all weekend?
I have cool down to earth friends but for some reason why is it so hard to find single people who don't think clubs, smoking or drinking is necessary to have fun. I been there done that and its no way I am going back. Yet I do have a need to be around others but I refuse to compromise and be the person I was. When I made a choice to follow Christ I knew I left the world behind and each and everyday that means people sometimes too. I definitely don't want to come off as a snob cause if you know me you can tell I am very down to earth. I just want to know why its just so hard to have good clean fun sometimes.
By the way I am going to say something that most saved people don't want to admit even hanging with church people can be so boring. Some are so stiff you think you hanging with a corpse. So this is Mr. Sleepless in Atlanta looking for real friends who love life and want to enjoy.

FRIEND OR FOE
On this journey in life I have gained some friends and I have lost some friends. Some I wish I had never met and some I simply hope never leave. I have often heard people say you can tell where a person is going or what kind of person you are dealing with by the friends that surround them. If this is true I really think we should be very wise about who we call a friend.
The best way I have found to distinguish a friend from a foe is my life guide for living. Of course for me its the bible and it always has some insight into any situation you are dealing with in life. The bible gave a clear characteristic of a friend. It says" a friend loves at all times". How can someone say that their your friend if they don't love you. A real friend can love you when you broke busted and disgusted. A real friend can let you ride shotgun when you don't have the fresh fade or or new J's. A real friend doesn't care if you don't have the same opinions or agree with them on every matter in life.
As I look back over my life I wish I had made what the bible said" surety of my friend" or would have been for certain this was a genuine friend. Life is too short for fake people in our lives. Either you are a friend or you faking it. If you faking it I will say one thing fall back so I can get to real friends that will love me for me.

Would Someone Please Change the Channel
SMH!!!! I am wondering today why do I pay this gigantic bundle cable bill. Its a 1000 channels but maybe four shows to follow if that. I remember back in the day networks competed for ratings for real. You had quality shows like the Cosby Show, Different World, heck I will even throw Friends in there. Nope I will not put 90210 in this but at least it was good tv at least. Now and days with this Reality TV we are left with turning the tube every five minutes hoping something good comes on. I guess I am going to either have to go with the times or develope me a show. What do you think my followers and bloggers? Its better than watching youtube all day. LOL!!!

If you want to know go to the Barber Shop!!!!!
Its become a small ritual for me every so often to go to my local barber shop and chop it up with the fellows. That forty-five minute to and hour experience of waiting and a hair cut involves so many things. Its kind of like a man's spa where we get to let go and release all the tension of a troublesome world and even a hectic job life. You can say what you want to say and nobody judges you. Everybody has a right to an opinion even if its not a fact. The only godlen rule to remember is not to offend the owner and don't be afraid to leave a generous tip when you know your barber got you right.
Well this time at the barber shop was no different than the previous I walked in to greetings of whats up and hello. I took my seat as I waited. It was kind of funny because I already knew what I wanted to talk about before I walked through the door. Last haircut me and a few regulars were discussing the upcoming football season. Of course I had my chance to gloat in my Pittsburgh Steelers who are currently 3-0. It doesn't just stop at sports. We are quick to turn the news up when we see an interesting story. During this time you really have to be careful because one thing about barber shop talk is everyone is an expert.
Its kind of like a funny feelings each time I get ready to leave the Barber Shop because I know without one tape recorder or note pad just about everything I said while there will be remembered next time I come back. It just like that show Cheers. Sometimes you want to go where everyone knows your name and their always glad you came and you can always find this at your local Barber Shop.

Learning to Delegate....
The last week has been busy busy busy. I just came back from a wonderful seminar in Tennessee that has opened my eyes to so many things. The only problem is how in the world do I fit all those things in with a busy hectic schedule. I love all the new networking connections that are coming my way. Its hard to say no to anything right now. Its liberating but a little stressful at the same time. It kind of makes me remember how my dad says be careful what you ask for. I mean I wanted more speaking engagements, youth events, and music gigs but how to manage it all is the question.
I don't even think this blackberry was equipped for all the emails, text, and facebook messages I am receiving right now. Finally I got tired of reminders, journals and logs that were getting longer than a Boston marathon and realized the key to it all. DELEGATE!!! DELEGATE!!! DELEGATE!!! I guess its like they say two heads are better than one because I refuse for my head to keep pounding.

Lets Talk About Sex Baby...
I am starting off this week with a lot of things on my mind. Right at the top of it is a meeting I have with a group of young men that I am mentoring. The primary issue I am dealing with is abstinence and how to convey this message over to them. The only way I could figure to really catch their attention is to really expose myself. Being a young 31 year old healthy black male this is a lifestyle choice I have made as well till I have a mate (wife that is). How can I get them to realistically look at abstinence as a choice if I don't include me in the conversation. The first thing many people need to remember is abstinence does not mean that you are a virgin. Rather it is a choice to stop practicing sex for whatever reason. I can give you some good reasons especially if you are a young teen or young adult and not married. A number one reason to me is you will not have to worry about STD's. Secondly another good reason is you will not have to worry about pregnancy. The only 100% sure way to prevent pregnancy young women is abstinence.
With all this being said it eased my mind about talking to the young men about abstinence. Will I tell them the road will be easy. NO!!!! My day is full of surprises, offers, temptations, and many distractions to lead me from this path. I can simply tell them through determination, prayer, and honesty with themselves they can actually enjoy a lifestyle of abstinence.

I am not a Role Model? Say What!!!!!!
Can anyone disagree with this? A celebrity makes millions of dollars. A sports players makes millions of dollars. Their fan base is largely made up of youth primarily betwen 12-19. Not only is this there fan base but this is who they market their brand too. After making astronomical revenues with his or her brand that is marketed to mainly young people who look up too them what is the next word to come out of their mouth. Hmmm well if you don't have a glue. Let me fill you in. " I AM NOT A ROLE MODEL"!!!! I kind of find that hard to believe when you are marketing to this set group of young people. How can you not believe that their actions will not in some way affect the thought process of some young teen. I tell you and others its not that they don't know but that they don't care. Parents, teens, and youth leaders I employ you to instill the values into young boys and girls that will make them Great Men and Great Women...
