Jealously Really: Grow Up

I can remember being a child seeing my friends get toys that I wanted to play with so badly. Not even knowing what jealously was at the time I still walked in its ugly ways. I remember how I even broke a childhood friends GI Joe soldiers, and even smashed his transformers. It was all because he had it and I didnt. I wanted it and couldn't have it. Looking back on all this some would say is quite trivial and I would agree but the sad thing is I am seeing grown adults display the same childish jealous behavior.

People can be jealous of a wide array of things but at the end of the day it stems from their own insecurities. I have never seen a time in my life where friends, family members, and business partners have so many fall outs due to this green eyed monster. Why lessen who you are by getting jealous over someone's car, home, financial wealth etc. Instead of getting jealous or trifling and ruining a relationship allow yourself to be inspired by others success. I would rather be inspired by others success than to allow my insecurities to force me to cruel acts of jealousy. Time to Grow Up!!!!

Hasn't God Done Enough???

Once upon a time a man became hungry and  began to pray. He cried"Lord I would love some chocolate" and in that instant an young man passed by and handed him a powered doughnut. Quickly he prayed "Lord I want some caramel candy" and suddenly a woman passed by and gave him a pepper mint stick. A third time he prayed "Lord I want some cake" and a young child passed by and gave him some raisins. Annoyed that God didn't give him exactly what he wanted he began to pray but before he could he heard the voice of the Lord say"IS THIS THE THANKS I GET FOR TREATING TO MAKE YOUR LIFE SWEET?

Relevance

I sometimes watch sports games and often times I may look at the players on the bench. Some are actively watching the game while others are despondent as if their team is not even playing. It seems the ones that are not even paying attention have gave themselves over to the mentality that their prescence is of no relevance. I find so many youth who often are looked over for the moment are beginning to feel their life has no relevance. As adults I feel it is of the utmost importance that we commit ourselves to every younng boy and girl and let them know they have worth.

Society puts so much emphasis on sports players, actors, singers, and anyone who can gain some type of following no matter what it is they did to get that attention. I believe we need to let youth know if they aren't the next Kobe Bryant, Beyonce. or Jay Z they still have worth and value. We have to instill in them there is nothing common about workig a decent job making an honest living. I believe every human being aspires to be relevant in whatever they do but we have to remember to instill in a young persons mind that being relevant is not necessarily always going to mean popular or well liked. Teach them real things such as education, integrity, and who they are as a person will determine their true relevance. You can be known by millions and despised by that majority due to lack of integrity and character. You can be known by few and be just as relevant because of the respect they have for your lifestyle. Youth please choose to be relevant in a positve light....

BEFORE YOU GET TATTED UP(Just saying)

I can remember getting my first tats. I got my first tats on my arm when I was 18. I was just starting college and although I don't regret the decision I definitely can see how they sometimes can cause you problems in the future. For example this story may be comical that I am about to tell but it is true.

I remember moving back to Atlanta after doing about 3 years of college and looking for a job. Well lets just say finding a job was never the problem even though I had tat's because I knew how to dress in a suit where they couldn't see them on my arms. Well the job I did land at the time was a pre-school assistant teacher. I was real cool with that at first because I do like working with kids. But you have to remember I am from Atlanta and the summer's are hot and brutal for real. The humidity feels like you are walking outside with a damp hot towel wrapped around your body. In short I remember my first day I wore a short sleeve short and the director of the school saw my tats. She kindly called me into her office and said the parents may have an issue with your tatoo's so I'm going to need you to wear long sleeves to work from now on.

On that note can you imagine how hot I was outside in the sun when it was play time for those kids. That was the most brutal sweaty 94 and up summer I ever had. Running around chasing little kids in the hot summer in a long sleeve shirt. All I can say is if you going to work in the mall maybe they want care if you got tats but if you trying to be corporate don't expect them to just give you six figure salary when you got pookie name tatteed up on your neck? Christmas and I'm loved....

Well this is my favorite time of the year. I love the Christmas season with the decorated houses,Christmas music blasting through the stores and homes. This Christmas has been so special to me because of the fact I am accepted by a family to share in their Christmas joy. I have enjoyed shopping with them and shopping for them. I appreciate the gifts they have bought me but the biggest gift I received was them allowing me to be apart of their lives. I look forward to this Christmas and many more with these 2 special new friends of mine. Just a blog dedicated to my 2nd family for all the joy they have brought me this season.

All It Takes Is An Idea

I know everybody has their on take of how or if music has a bearing on the actions on a youth but lets put it like this just in case you don't believe music has any bearing on a young listener. Answer these questions as an adult when you want to get in a party mood what do you want the D.J. to play? A party type song and immediately everyone rushes to the dance floor because whatever that song is or the beat is it moves people and people identify the song and beat with Party or Dancing. On another note when people are trying to set the mood they don't run to a sad song of how I lost my dog house cat or etc. They put on some slow rhythms with soft little echoes with maybe a smooth voice and hmmm we all know how the night usually ends. Now if you being an adult are moved by the suggestion of songs lyrics and beats how much more a youth.

When usually the top 10 rap videos have some form of money glorification, self worship, drug glorifying, gun gloryfying and whatever else you can name that is against good moral living what do you think the youth will sometimes do. The industry pumps certain amounts of money in each project to promote market and sell albums and get its artist in the mainstream (basically in the mind of music listerners and pop culture). So in other words when they promote artist who promote drugs, pimping, money by all means etc. in essence they are promoting the idea of drugs, pimping, sex, money by all means to the youth. Be careful what you allow your kids to listen to. All it takes is an idea.

Are you a Jacob or an Esau?????

Many of us have heard of the sons of Issac, Esau and Jacob. The cunningness of Jacob to first get Esau's birthright and secondly going along with his mothers trickery to recieve Esau's blessing as well. Although we know these things if we look at this two sons a little closer we can ask ourselves a question? Am I a Jacob or am I an Esau?

Although Jacob was far from being the perfect angel one thing can be said of him. He did desire the things God wanted. He desired the birthright that was rightfully Esau's but realize with the birthright came responsiblities and not just the fact he would recieve a wealthier inheritance. For instance by aquiring the birthright from Esau it meant Jacob would be the head of the family. The priest of the family you could say. He would be responsible for keeping the family in the will of God, keeping the covenant of God that was passed down from Abraham and Issac. It was not an easy task as he would have to be seperate and peculiar from all other tribes or nations that were around him. So in essence Jacob not only wanted the plushness of a blessings from God but was willing to follow the covenant and will of God to preserve it.

Esau on the other hand as the bible said was a profane person. Esau did not value the things of God. The bible goes even as far as to say that he chose strange women who were a grievance to his parents. Esau was very happy to want the blessing from his father but when it came to his birthright the bible says he despised it. He didn't want the responsibilty of keeping the covenant of God and guiding others into his will. After all he sold his birthright for what we would call a bowl of Campbells soup.

Before you answer the question of whether you are a Jacob or Esau ask yourself am I selling out when it comes to doing what God says? Do I want the blessing more than I want the responsibility of doing what is God's will for my life? Do I run from the responsibility of keeping God's words as it pertains to living a godly Christian life. Jacob or Esau your choice.

Summation of my 2011

How do I sum up this year? Quick, adventurous, amazing, productive,  and any other descriptive word that would imply forward progress.

Yes there were mistakes along the way but I learned how to use them and gained wisdom from them. Yes there were times I wanted to throw up my hands and say forget it but this year I gained a resilience that will definitely help me in my future years. I met new friends, got rid of some old ones, and enjoyed the pleasure of traveling to cities I'd always wanted to see. D.C. made me feel a bit patriotic while Arizona made me feel at a sense of harmony with Gods beautiful earth while exploring the mountains, and Portland brought out a more creative side of me.

This year I learned how to hope for the best, believe for the best, and settle for nothing less. I learned a King deserves a Queen and not to allow fools in my Court. As great as this year was I also know and remember that when January 1, 2012 begins and that 2011 is only the past.

Becoming Bigger Than My Dream

The other day a wonderful friend of mine sent me a little note and in it these words were found" I am becoming bigger than my dreams". I thought to myself for a second when I read it what a bold statement. Then I thought to myself how do you take a statement like that? Well this is how I'm taking it and running with those wonderful words.

First of all many of us have dreams that either we're working on to see happen in our lifetime. Secondly there are those of us who have attained our dreams. I would like to say that this statement is definitely for the latter but will one day include the previous. Sometimes we set out and accomplish our dreams and then what are we left to run after. Do we bask in the glory of completing a dream that was bigger than an idea but became associated with our core being. Honestly I believe at this point when walking in a fulfilled dream it's time to say I am Becoming Bigger Than My Dreams. You may have recieved the degree, found a soul mate in whom you had children, maybe even successful launched a prosperous business of your own but guess what you still can become Bigger than your dream. Remember when one dream is fulfilled there is room to Dream another Dream. Perhaps the first dream was good but to small for who you are. Maybe just maybe you are capable of More. In short remember to keep dreaming.

The Truth Behind Fear

Have you ever watched a scary movie and thought to yourself if I was that character I would have done something totally different. Wow he or she is running the wrong way into the monsters horrible grip. The character is so afraid their actually running right past help. It's like once the fear comes that leads to panic mode, and suddenly the character is disoriented enough to be dealt with by the monster.

Have you ever stopped to think that in real life is this the setup that is going on in my life. Am I really the character that is running around aimlessly who allowed an ounce of fear in my life to disorient me to the reality that I can make it through whatever situation I am in. Did I let fear creep into my mind that I don't realize that I had this problem beat eons ago. Well since we are talking about movies don't forget the part they always say in scary movies" IF YOU'RE NOT AFRAID OF IT, IT CAN'T HURT YOU". Remember while you're in the middle of a crisis the worst thing you can do is fear. Remember your God said to Fear not. Remember your God said he has not given you the spirit of fear and in that remembering face whatever has you afraid or paralyzed by and move with power, love, and the sound mind that God has given you to overcome any crisis of life.

No Secret, No Lies, How I Feel Is Valid If I am Feeling It

We have all heard be careful what you say or the most frequent one I hear is think before you speak. It's nothing wrong with either one of these concepts at all. We all need to bridle our tongue at times. I know I have said things in my lifetime I wish I could take back but unfortunately once things are said its no way take it back no matter how the intention are meant. Yet I am learning in all my wisdom it is a time to say the unthinkable and what doesn't neccassarily wants to be heard.

Music and poetry has always been a great outlet for me to speak what I usually hold inside but lately I realize sometimes it can also be my way of avoiding confrontation. I am challenging myself now to break silence and if something needs to be said to realize confrontation isn't neccassrily a bad thing but can be seen as tool to get through misunderstandings even if voices have to be raised. Things are sometimes better off said than nurtured to roam in our mind where we may only see it from our small vantage point. So I just wanted to share with my friends Get It Out.

They One They Eyeing

Is that the one they Eyeing
You know the one that want get up off his butt and find a job~
Rather complain about the odds

Find him online showing off his physique
Want lift a finger around the house unless its lifting up your sheets

Is that the one they Eyeing
The one that leave them crying with boo coo's of BoQuisha's calling their phone at night
Saying I'm pregnant with your man's baby and you are the wife

You know the one you have to check all his text
Ask  him whose calling your phone this time of night he might break your neck

The one who'll deny his kid who he lives under the same roof with
Want attend any PTA meetings cause he's on an Xbox trip

Wow that's the one they Eyeing
Well ladies it's time to change the lens of your focus
Realize off your initial gut he's a waste of time and push past him with swift motion

Realize foolish idle conversation with him could lead to years of degradation
A moment of passion with him could equal a child with no fatherly relations

SO ASK YOURSELF IS THAT THE ONE YOU'RE EYEING?

Songs that Count

Well happy to say the next single I release will be dedicated to my grandmother. She was a great inspiration in my life and it was in this month she passed a few years back. I wrote this song very long ago but felt like now was the perfect time to put it out. It took a lot out of me to just recording it. I had to think about all the things I had been through leading up to the point before she died and try to sum it all up. Like I said the song was written long ago  but the pain still lingers so hopefully this song will be good therapy to release. I know we all can identify with freshly starting things in life and suddenly losing a loved one. I hope my new single "Time Slipping Away" blesses you guys and only brings great memories of loved ones that may have passed on. Look for the release. God Bless

The Plight of the Independent Artist 101

Have you ever looked at your favorite singer, rapper, or even producer and wondered how did he or she get there? I know I have countless times over and over again. Sometimes looking at various award shows or listening to different radio stations I can't help but figure why not me? Yet to my defense its not in a attitude of jealousy but of motivation. As an independent artist I know the deck is stacked against me twice and the odds are not in my favor. As an independent artist you have to see people pass your music up not because its not great but sometimes simply because it's not attached to a major label or some big name producer didn't produce any tracks on it. Some days the burden of trying to write the right song, make the right beat, or just getting the song in the right hands can be so frustrating. Not to mention all the haters who are critically of your every move. In all this I try to keep my eyes fixed on the goals I have set for myself. You can quote your favorite independent artist saying I'm one beat away, one verse away, or one show away and all these indie frustrations will be in my yesterday. Although some people look at indie music as the curse of not making it to the mainstream but in fact its quite the opposite. That Big I in the Indie means to me INTEGRITY. Its me having the INTEGRITY to challenge myself to put out the best music I possibly can no matter how ridiculous anyone may think of me. Even though I am an independent artist I don't stand alone I just reserve my God given right to make it on my own on my terms.

It's In You

I know now and days in this fast paced social media marketing craze its easy to rely on social networks rather than real get up and get it leg work. We browse through countless online sites and accounts seeing who in our so called network is capable or have the skills or resources to help us pull off our next big thing. I don't believe its anything wrong with networking and  building bridges off support at all but have realized that we are losing sight many times of whose responsibility it is to get things done. At the end of the day your vision, dream, goal, or any expected result or vindication  you are looking to recieve is totally up to you.

In  my opinion we are putting to much in the next man's hand thinking he or she has the magic piece to fit our puzzle for success. I have learned through trial and error if the vision is yours then you should own it and not your network. I don't think God gives us dreams, ambitions, and drive to see those things through to fuition only to wait for someone in our network to fill a piece. You have the capability to get the job done effectively and in a timely order. If God gave you a Vision or Dream do you think he would hold you up waiting on people in a network? Yes God uses people but he also has given you everything that pertains to life and godliness. Believe me its in you to do what needs to be done.

Transparency: Keep it 100!!!

I know many of us have wondered why is so difficult for people to be truthful with us in relationships, friendship, or business partnership. So easily we wonder why do people have to be deceitful or plain out liars when it comes to relationships. In modern day slang why can't they keep it 100...
When questions like these enter my mind I often try to go to the beginning of it all. When humanity had the awesome chance to be real. When God asked Adam "Where are you"? He could have easily confessed I am in sin but instead as we read more of the story he places all the blame on the woman losing all rights to the garden of Eden and to toil and work by the sweat of his brow.
Trust me when we fail to keep it 100 or transparent with others we lose something just like Adam. We may not lose the garden of Eden but how valuable are the trust of friendship, spouses, or love ones. Remember when you fail to be transparent its not only the person deceived that suffers loss but the deceiver as well. So please keep 100..

It's going to take...

Have you ever asked yourself what keeps you from total victory? Why am I not delivered from what I am going through? Sometimes the answers to these questions are simple and obvious. For some of us the answer can boil down to one thing. FAITH!!! You can't take it lightly. Faith is what helped David kill a giant with a sling. Faith is what made an older Sarah bare a child. Faith is what helped Gideon defeat a formidable Midianite army with only 300 men.

Your faith is a force to reckoned with. Jesus said be it unto you according to your faith. Now that we know that faith is key we must build on it. The Bible says faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God. Pray in the word, speak the word, meditate in the word and definitely read it. The word is your gasoline to a full tank of faith. As you go through life remember all things are possible to those that will believe.

Misery Loves Company

Whether we want to admit it or not success isn't taken by all our peers as a good thing. Sometimes the better you do the more opposition you face by even those that should be supportive. I am finding a good way to handle this and a bad way way to handle it.
We all have to make a decision at this point. Either we allow our so called friends to make us feel guilty for attaining our goals or make the hard decision and let them go if they constantly try to make you feel miserable for succeeding. Not to say these decisions will be easy but in the end I believe your happiness is worth it.

The Independent Artist Process

As an independent artist I am experiencing the highs and the lows of this music industry. With so many books of how to and what not to do it can be a little overwhelming in the least when trying to launch a career. You can go to your local mall, barber shop, even gas station and find an independent artist trying to pass out a CD or someones poster plastered against a wall. So where does that leave me? The ambitious Preacher Rapper and Singer Kenyetta Drain.

If I was uncertain I would say trouble but the race is not given to the swift nor the strong but those that endure. This music industry is about endurance, patience, and determination. Doors of opportunities will open and yes there will be many moments of rejection. This is one independent artist who wants to take you me on his journey of successes and failures and help someone along the way. Hopefully you can see that the guy on the corner isn't just hustling but just needs a better plan and presentation and the skill set in which to bring his music to the stage not tossed out someones car window.

Follow me in my journey and feel free to give advice and challenge me to be the best artist I can be.

These are the beginning of sorrows....

If anyone of you have been watching the sensitive and often quite violent situation that is evolving in Egypt their should be alarm. Alarm on the part of the unsaved as well as saved. If you are unsaved it would behoove you to get saved because this is none other than bible prophecy fulfilling itself right before our very eyes. If you are saved this is God's warning clock that our redemption is draws nigh. It is important to remember that although no man knows the time nor the hour God gave us many signs to look for concerning his coming.

We have seen wars and rumors of wars. We have seen the increase of pestilence. The signs sit evident and plain before our eyes even when we turn on our news everyday. Even the very elect seemed to be deceived by leaders who have perverted the gospel that are being exposed for the beast they really are. The bible spoke of men becoming lovers of them self. Has it it ever been a more prevalent time that homosexuality has edged it's way into the youth, young adults, and has found leverage in the very law that governs our society. Remember a warning always come before destruction and pride comes before a fall. It is time to awake and realize these are not American sorrows but Global sorrows that only Christ will be able to put to an end. Find your place in him and trust him to lead so you will be able to escape the wrath to come.
